Why German wind turbines Print E-mail
The German market is ideal for wind turbine investments. The German EEG-legislation (“Erneuerbare-Energie-Gesetz”) guarantees a high and 20 year fixed feed-in tariff and imposes an obligation on the utility companies to purchase all electricity produced by wind turbines at that feed-in tariff. This legislation has eliminated two main risks in a wind turbine investment, i.e. i) can I sell the electricity produced and ii) at what price.

The result of the German legislation is significant. In 2000 Germany introduced the first version of the EEG-legislation, and today Germany is the world’s largest contributor of wind produced energy. The latest version of the EEG-legislation, which takes effect from 1 January 2009 fixes the feed-in tariff at 73 øre/kWh (9,7 €cent) for turbines commissioned in 2009.
